Deep Fried Mushrooms

Deep Fried Mushrooms
1 cup flour
1 tsp salt and pepper
1 egg
1 cup water or milk
1 pound button mushrooms
2 cups oil for frying, or as needed
In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, salt and pepper; mix in egg and water until smooth.
Heat the oil in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Test to see if oil is hot by frying a drop of batter. If it sizzles and floats to the top, the oil is ready.
Wash and Pat try mushrooms, the batter will stick better if dry; cut into halves or quarters, depending on how big the mushrooms are. Dip mushrooms into the batter and then place in the hot oil. Fry a few at a time so they are not crowded, until golden brown, about 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Variations:
Add other spices to your batter, garlic powder, minced dried onion, red pepper flakes
Or
1 1/2 lbs button mushroom (cleaned with ends cut)
2 eggs
2 Tbsps milk
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 cup dry Italian Seasoned breadcrumbs
1/2 cup butter
Beat eggs and milk together until light and fluffy; mix in pepper. Dip mushrooms into egg mixture. Dredge in season breadcrumbs.
Over medium heat melt butter in large skillet. Fry mushrooms stirring ever now and again until they are tender and batter is brown.
